A seller of rare books is visited by an archaeologist who has discovered an ancient manuscript hidden in a cave on the Greek island of Salamis.
After translation the the manuscript proves to have been written by the Greek tragedian, Euripides while he was living in self-imposed exile.
It relates how he was visited by Medea who tells him the truth about the myth of Jason and the Argonaut's quest for the Golden Fleece. She describes how the great love between her and Jason ended in the most terrible of tragedies.
